What is CAPS and why is it important?
Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS) are accredited through the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) once they have completed and taken the required courses and passed the required exams. CAPS accreditation ensures you are discussing your safe bathing needs with a professional who has received training to properly address your concerns.

How will a Best Bath shower or tub affect my home’s resale value?
Many customers are pleased to learn that their Best Bath shower or bathtub actually increased their home’s value. The need for safe bathing solutions will only increase, and homes with accessible features already incorporated into their layout are appealing to many prospective home buyers. It is always best, however, to contact your real estate professional for an official assessment of your intended modifications.
Can my Best Bath shower be trimmed to accommodate an existing window?
Yes! Best Bath showers have the structural integrity to allow this type of modification. You will want to use a standard circular saw or reciprocating saw with a fine-toothed blade, and a carbide tip saw will give you the best results. To minimize chipping, we recommend you lay masking tape over the gelcoat surface before you start. To complete this modification, we offer Best Bath window trim kits for windows up to 73”, and they can be ordered to match the color of your shower or walk-in tub.
Which cleaners can I use on my Best Bath shower or bathtub?
You can use any non-abrasive liquid cleaner, and make sure to follow the product manufacturer’s directions. Do not use harsh abrasives such as Comet, Ajax, or Bon Ami because they will harm or dull your Best Bath unit’s finish.
What can I use on my shower or tub unit for hard water stains, calcium deposits, lime scale or difficult soap scum?
Simple Green Lime Scale Remover, Lime-Away, or C.L.R. Simple are recommended by Best Bath’s manufacturing department. Also, automotive paste wax applied twice a year provides the best results for cleaning as well as buildup prevention. Just make sure to follow the product manufacturer’s directions, which may recommend the use of a mechanical buffer. For safety reasons, do not use wax on your shower floor.
When must I install shower seats or safety bars?
You can install shower seats or safety bars when you want, where you want. You can install these accessories the same day your shower or tub is being installed, or even wait a few decades. Best Bath showers have full plywood backing, giving you maximum strength and unlimited options.
How do I keep water from coming out of my low threshold shower?
A weighted vinyl shower curtain and flexible WaterStopper water retention kit eliminate your need for a floor drain outside the shower stall. Best Bath’s heavy-duty shower curtains are wider than the shower and long enough to reach the floor, preventing air currents and water to cause the shower curtain to “blow out”. The WaterStopper collapsible water retainer compresses under foot or wheel but quickly springs back in place to keep water in.
What is the warranty on Best Bath showers and walk-in tubs?
Best Bath showers, tub/showers and shower pans have a 30-year limited warranty, and walk-in tubs have a Limited Lifetime Warranty. You can view both of them on our Warranty Page.
Will our Best Bath shower withstand the wear and tear of our active family?
Actually, Best Bath showers and bathtubs are ideal for an active and growing family. They have sturdy composite construction with a gelcoat finish that is easy to maintain or touched up if necessary. With a Best Bath shower or walk-in tub, you can be assured that you’ve purchased a durable-yet-attractive bathing unit that comes with unparalleled service and support should you ever need it.
Why are Best Bath showers and walk-in tubs made with gelcoat instead of acrylic?
Both gelcoat and acrylic are excellent finishes for bathtubs and showers, but gelcoat is superior. Both are resin-based plastic materials and have similar properties, but there are some structural, chemical and property differences between the two. The durability of gelcoat, which is also frequently used in boat hulls, enables Best Bath Systems to extend industry-leading warranties to customers.
One main difference between these two materials is that acrylic starts as a solid sheet form and gelcoat starts as a liquid.
Acrylic is heated and stretched over a mold through a process called vacuum forming. The major disadvantage to acrylic vacuum forming is that deeper molds (like shower or tub units) produce thinner areas, which is often on the bottom of the unit. A common sign of acrylic thickness inconsistency is a color difference between the floor and the bowl or floor corner.
When liquid gelcoat is applied, a trained operator sprays it to a mold in a process called open contact molding, resulting in a very uniform and consistently thick finish.
During the fabrication process, acrylic has been shown to be less dimensionally stable. Acrylic is a “thermo-forming” plastic, which means it softens and can be reformed if it gets warm enough. Gelcoat, on the other hand, is a “thermo-set” product, meaning it maintains its shape once it is sprayed and cured.
Gelcoat also outperforms acrylic when the finish requires repair. Whereas acrylic repairs are “patched” on and are prone to discolor or fail, gelcoat chemically bonds to itself. If repaired correctly, often the refinished area is completely unnoticeable.
What is the life expectancy of gelcoat?
Industry standard expectancy is 30 years, depending on how well the shower or bathtub is maintained.
I want a glass door for our Best Bath shower now, but can I safely remove it when I don’t?
Absolutely; Best Bath has semi-permanent thresholds for barrier-free showers, enabling you to install a shower door. This allows you the flexibility to install the shower door when you need it, but remove it when you don’t – without compromising the finish! Plus, you can always reinstall the threshold and door at a later time.
